Suprnova.org Back Online

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Our friends at Teckh.com are reporting that Suprnova.org is back online.  Suprnova was arguably the best torrents search engine until they were shutdown in 2004 due to legal pressure.  The site was donated to what has become the the top general torrents search engine, thepiratebay.com.  The Pirate Bay has reopened suprnova and is officially calling it an open beta.

This is great news for anyone looking for any easy way to obtain backup copies of media they legally own.

Official Press Release:

Suprnova has been down for some years due to some heavy pressure from the copyright lobby. The former owner sloncek donated suprnova to The Pirate Bay - and as you know, we like to kick ass and bow for noone!

We were going to keep this site a secret until we had finished it, but of course it leaked, that’s how internet works. So now that the word is out, we’re releasing it!

Please consider these first weeks/months as a beta test. Since we love all you guys and gals so much we decided to keep it an open beta test. That means, please behave, don’t complaint to much and if you discover any weird bugs or problems, let us know.

Some of you have also already discovered our new forum, Suprbay! Which is a joint forum for both Suprnova and The Pirate Bay. Discuss movies, music, love and whatever with your fellow pirates.

Finally, some words for non-internet loving companies: This is how it works. Whatever you sink, we build back up. Whomever you sue, ten new pirates are recruited. Wherever you go, we are already ahead of you. You are the past and the forgotten, we are the internet and the future.

y’arr!

Firefox 3 Beta May Take Its Sweet Time

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Everyone’s favorite web browser, Mozilla Firefox, is currently in its second iteration. An official third release isn’t too far away some think, but then again, maybe it is. Mozilla is planning to release a pre-beta form of Firefox 3 every six or so weeks, but an official beta release will only happen when Mozilla is happy with the whole shebang. Mike Schroepfer, vice president of engineering, said:

We are driven by quality, not time. We want to Firefox 3 to be something that we are all proud of. This means features that delight users and the same or higher quality than previous releases. “Quality” includes performance (Tp/Ts/TDHTML/etc), footprint, web compatibility, regressions, and general fit and finish. Having said that, we want to move the web forward and are in a competitive market. So we should converge on a release as fast as possible.

So, for everyone who is waiting with baited breath for what can only be the most uber-awesomest browser ever (and let’s face it, that’s kinda nerdy, but I love you for it) you’ll probably have to just keep waiting for now.

On a related note, there’s an interesting problem that has arisen with Firefox’s 2.0.0.4 release. Technically, it’s not Firefox’s problem, though, it’s Internet Explorer’s. On the browser-based security front, researchers have found a flaw in Internet Explorer that can cause Firefox to execute remote malicious code. The problem only happens when you are browsing with IE and also have Firefox installed. Now who would do that anyway? Beats me, but if you want an in-depth look at this situation, check this out.
